I read a book recently called The Code of The Extraordinary Mind which talked about the most empowering ways to live in the world where you experience ultimate fulfilment and harmony. Two things are essential when it comes to living in complete harmony and that is being happy in the now and having a compelling vision for the future.
A vision that excites you and gives meaning to your life. Otherwise if we have no vision then there really won’t be any meaning in our lives and we’ll just stagnate. Having no vision is like sailing a boat without having a destination, you could end up anywhere!
Happiness in the present moment
This is where you’re happy with where and who you are at this current moment. You’re not wishing this moment away, you’re not trying to escape it, nor are you tying your happiness to your future vision. You are grateful for what you already have and you are eagerly anticipating more, therefore you are in perfect harmony.
This isn’t about not having a future vision, you’re just not depending on it. You are making the choice to be happy now so you don’t have to wait until you achieve your vision to experience happiness. Success doesn’t create happiness, happiness creates success.
Then you will be operating from the perfect platform when you achieve your vision. How do we actually achieve happiness in the now and sustain it?
Here’s are two powerful ways which you can do to be happy in the now on a constant basis…
I’m sure you’ve heard about gratitude and why it’s helpful to focus on the things we appreciate in life all over the internet. But there’s a good reason for why it’s talked about a lot… it’s incredibly life changing. It alters your perspective on the world and you start to appreciate the smallest of things.
It’s also helpful when you find yourself in a negative situation because by being grateful, you create a new habit and after a while it becomes automatic so you brain automatically thinks up all the things you love.
Sometimes the reason why we cannot be happy at present is because we are carrying a lot of useless and destructive baggage around with us. Usually it’s the case that we are holding onto a grudge we have over someone who may have caused us harm in the past. Be it mental harm or physical.
The point is that even though you might think it’s hard to forgive someone because of whatever they did to you, it’s incredibly liberating and frees up a lot of your creative energy. In other words, forgiving others is healing. Holding onto a grudge doesn’t make you stronger, it actually makes you weaker and bitter as a person.
Forgiveness is true strength. Forgiveness helps you to clean up your psyche and enjoy life in the present! Always remember that every time you forgive, you’re are helping yourself and every time you hold a grudge, you’re harming yourself and your happiness.
Having a vision that pulls you forward
It’s important that we as humans have a vision, some sort of end goal to work towards. Everything has to start with a vision. Just think about what you’ve achieved in your life. I bet you had a thought or a vision of it before you achieved that goal.
There are however, two types of goals and they are means goals and end goals. Means goals are when you only do something as a means to an end. An example of a means goal is getting rich or becoming famous. They are a means to getting what it is you truly desire.
On the other hand, an end goal is something that fills you with true meaning and purpose. It could be writing a book that will contribute to humanity in some way, or working on a cause like protecting the environment.
The excitement comes when we have a vision and spend every day working on bringing that vision into ours and everybody else’s reality. For long term happiness and fulfilment, it’s important you know what it is you desire in life.
Before, I didn’t really have a vision. Well I did and that was seeing myself overcoming my fear disorder which I did actually overcome a few years ago. But after overcoming my anxiety, I was just interested in being present and focusing all of my energy on the ‘happiness in the now’ aspect of being in harmony. And even though there is nothing wrong with this, (it’s one part of the ultimate state of harmony) I felt there was something missing in my life and there was, not having a future vision was the missing ingredient.
So I asked myself questions and came to the conclusion that my end goal is to help as many people as I possibly can become empowered and live meaningful lives free from negativity.
So what is it that you feel would fill you with joy on a constant basis? How would you like to contribute to the world? How do you want to grow as a human being?
Asking these questions is a sure fire way to find out what it is that compels you forward towards a vision you have. It’s essential that your vision is authentic and not ego driven because an inauthentic goal will not bring you the joy you seek.
““Extraordinary minds are able to bend reality. They have bold and exciting visions for the future, yet their happiness is not tied to these visions. They are happy in the now. This balance allows them to move toward their visions at a much faster rate while having a ton of fun along the way.” – Vishen Lakhiani, author of The Code of The Extraordinary Mind
I trust you found this post helpful and that you now know how important it is to be happy now and at the same time have a powerful compelling vision. According to Vishen Lakhiani, this is how extraordinary people live.
Until next time
Peace, love and empowerment!
